Understanding Deposit Rejected

What Deposit Rejected means and how we fix it

Crypto deposit holds occur when blockchain analytics flag the source address. Fiat deposit rejections come from exchange compliance, banking partner screening, or your bank blocking outgoing transfers to crypto platforms. A rejected deposit can trigger account-level AML review.

Common triggers

Why deposits get rejected or held

  • Card issuer blocks: Banks and card networks (Visa, Mastercard) often block crypto purchases as part of their own policies. This is NOT an exchange issue — it's a bank issue.
  • Bank transfer rejection: SEPA or SWIFT transfers rejected by the sending bank, receiving bank, or intermediary bank. Often due to the bank's crypto policy or compliance concerns.
  • Crypto deposit screening: Blockchain analytics flags the source address — connected to mixers, sanctioned entities, or known fraud. The deposit is held, not credited and not returned.
  • Account restrictions: Your exchange account is under compliance review, preventing new deposits from being credited. The deposit arrives but sits in a pending state.
  • Network/chain errors: Wrong network or chain used for the deposit (e.g., sending ERC-20 tokens to a BEP-20 address). The deposit may be recoverable but requires technical intervention.
  • Minimum deposit requirements: Deposits below the exchange's minimum threshold may be rejected or held. Common with smaller swap services.
Legal framework

Your rights when a deposit is held

When an exchange holds your crypto deposit for compliance screening, it is not credited to your account and not returned to the sender — it sits in an exchange-controlled wallet in legal limbo. Under EU law (MiCA, AMLD6), the exchange must: conduct the review within a reasonable timeframe, provide updates on the review status (within tipping-off limits), credit the deposit if the review determines it's legitimate, return the deposit if the review cannot justify holding it. Under US law, FinCEN regulations and CFPB complaints provide similar protections. The exchange cannot hold your deposit indefinitely without legal basis — if the review exceeds reasonable timeframes, we escalate through regulatory channels. For bank transfer rejections, the funds are typically returned to the sender's account within 5-10 business days. For crypto deposits, the funds remain with the exchange until the review is complete — we provide evidence of the deposit's legitimate origin to accelerate the review and ensure the funds are either credited or returned.

FAQ

Deposit Rejected questions

My crypto deposit shows on-chain but wasn't credited — where is it?

The exchange received your funds but is holding them in compliance review. Blockchain analytics flagged the source address. Your funds are safe but frozen at the deposit processing layer. We engage with the exchange to release the hold.

Will a rejected deposit cause problems with my account?

It can — compliance-flagged deposits may trigger the exchange to review your broader account. Acting quickly to resolve the deposit issue prevents cascade effects.

Do you handle Deposit Rejected on all exchanges?

Yes — we handle Deposit Rejected across 21+ platforms including Binance, Bybit, Coinbase, Kraken, OKX, KuCoin, MEXC, HitBTC, CEX.IO, Crypto.com, Gate.io, HTX, Bitfinex, WhiteBit, Changelly, ChangeNow, FixedFloat, and stablecoin issuers (Tether, Circle). Each platform has different compliance processes, timelines, and documentation requirements. We tailor our approach to each.

How much does Deposit Rejected resolution cost?

Two options: Fixed fee from €399 (pay upfront, fixed scope) or Success fee (percentage of recovered amount, no upfront payment). Both include a free initial case assessment within 6 hours. No hidden fees, transparent agreement before we start. We only charge for successful outcomes on the success fee option.

What happens to my crypto deposit that's being held?

If blockchain analytics flags your crypto deposit, it is held in an exchange-controlled wallet — not credited to your account and not returned. The deposit remains in this limbo state until the compliance review is complete. If legitimate, it will be credited. If connected to illicit activity, it may be frozen indefinitely. This can take 3-10 business days for standard screening.

Can I retry a rejected bank deposit?

If your bank deposit was rejected, retrying with the same bank will likely fail. First determine the cause: bank crypto policy, exchange compliance, or banking partner issue. Each has a different solution. If the bank blocked it, use a different bank or payment method. If the exchange restricted your account, the restriction must be lifted first.

Can I recover a crypto deposit sent to the wrong network?

If you sent a deposit on the wrong network (e.g., ERC-20 tokens sent to a BEP-20 address), the exchange may be able to recover it through a technical process — but it requires manual intervention by the exchange's technical team, not the compliance team. This is a different process from a compliance hold. The exchange typically charges a recovery fee. If the exchange refuses to recover the deposit, we escalate through appropriate channels. Note: some wrong-network deposits are permanently unrecoverable — the exchange does not control the private keys for the wrong network.
